Since a breast lift does not change the overall volume of the breast, it is often paired with a breast augmentation or breast reduction to achieve the best results. This should be considered when you are thinking about undergoing a breast lift, and it should be discussed with Dr. Swail prior to the procedure.
Breast Lift Procedure
There are three different incisions for a breast lift, and which one is used depends on a patient’s breast size and shape, size and position of the areola, the amount of correction needed, and the skin’s elasticity. Dr. Swail will do a full examination prior to the procedure to determine which incision location will be appropriate, given the patient’s unique needs.
Once the incision location is determined, Dr. Swail gently lifts and reshapes the underlying breast tissue. Once the desired contour is achieved, any excess skin is removed to restore a more youthful skin elasticity. Depending on the amount of correction necessary, the nipple and areola may be repositioned to a more natural height. In cases where areolas have become enlarged, they can be reduced by excising skin at the perimeter.
Breast Lift Results
The results of a breast lift are immediately visible following the procedure. Over time, swelling and incision lines will fade. Following the procedure, dressings and bandages will cover the incision and a support bra or elastic bandage will support the breasts during the healing process. The elastic bandage or support bra will also help to minimize swelling and help to reduce recovery time.
Dr. Swail meets with each patient personally to discuss their desired outcome and expectations prior to each procedure. This allows Dr. Swail to design a customized breast lift procedure to achieve great, long-lasting results. Prior to the procedure, Dr. Swail will review the different incision locations to determine which options will deliver the best results.
