Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure
In most cases, laser resurfacing will begin with skin treatments six weeks before the actual procedure to prepare the skin. Skin treatments are fully customized to the individual needs of each patient to minimize complications and to obtain optimal results. Prior to the procedure, numbing agents will also be used to minimize discomfort during the procedure. In some cases, patients may also be given sedatives for maximum comfort during the procedure. Laser skin resurfacing typically takes between 30 minutes and two hours depending on the amount of correction needed. Dr. Swail uses CO2 laser resurfacing to vaporize the surface skin and reveal the undamaged layer beneath.
Laser Skin Resurfacing Results
There can be some discomfort following a laser skin resurfacing as the surface of the face heals. It is recommended that patients keep their head elevated and use ice to minimize swelling and discomfort following the procedure. Full recovery typically takes one to two weeks depending on the size and condition of the area that was treated. Once the surface of the face has healed, light and oil-free make-up can be used to disguise any temporary redness. Dr. Swail will recommend sunscreens and moisturizers to help treat the affected area following the procedure. Once healed, the new layer of skin will be fuller and appear more youthful.
Dr. Swail meets with each patient personally to discuss his or her desired outcomes and expectations prior to each laser skin resurfacing procedure. This allows Dr. Swail to design a customized treatment to achieve great long-lasting results.
