Five Post Surgery Tips

Make Arrangements for Time Off Work

During your initial consultation with Dr. Swail, he will review the estimated recovery period for your procedure. This will help you work with your employer to request the necessary time off for your healing. We recommend that you do this well in advance, as the last thing you want to worry about is talking to your benefits coordinator during your recovery.

Have a Support System

Depending on the nature of your surgery, you will be least able to care for yourself in the first 48 to 72 hours following your procedure. It is important that you have a support system in place ahead of time, and someone who can help you during this time. Not only will this provide you with some comfort and promote healing after your surgery, having help will prevent you from overexerting yourself.

Follow Your Doctor’s Orders

Our office will provide you with a comprehensive informational packet when you leave our office. It will include important aftercare instructions and precautions that you should take following your surgery. To ensure you are aware of common side effects and what to do if complications arise, it is critical that you read this information and follow all of Dr. Swail’s recovery instructions. If you have any questions at all about the information contained in this packet, contact our office immediately.

Relax and Be Patient

To ensure that your recovery process goes as smoothly as possible, it is important that you relax and be patient. Make sure you drink plenty of water, avoid overexertion, and maintain a healthy diet. When combined, all of these factors will give your body the energy it needs to heal. Also, try to be patient and don’t be discouraged by scarring, bruising, and other after-effects of your surgery. These will disappear over time to reveal the true results of your procedure.

Ask Questions

Finally, communication with our office is key to an efficient and smooth recovery process, and it is important that you advocate for yourself following your surgery. If you have any questions about your medication, Dr. Swail’s recovery instructions, or any other aspect of your healing process, we are here to provide answers.
